At Space City Yarn, we’re more than just a yarn shop. We’re a vibrant community of fiber enthusiasts—knitters, crocheters, weavers, spinners, and makers of all kinds—coming together to explore, learn, and create. Our story began with a shared passion for fiber arts and a dream to bring something unique to Houston’s creative landscape.

Founded by Jane and Jana, two lifelong fiber enthusiasts, Space City Yarn was born out of a desire to create a welcoming space where crafters could connect, learn, and grow their skills. As passionate makers ourselves, we know firsthand the joy and satisfaction that comes from crafting with our hands, and we wanted to share that with the vibrant community here in Houston.

Meet the Founders: Jane & Jana

Jane is a knitter, gardener, and macrame enthusiast with a passion for recreating garments she’s seen in stores or online. She has a keen eye for construction and a nurturing spirit that makes her the perfect go-to for pattern customization, troubleshooting, and guiding knitters through challenging projects. Whether you’re looking to craft a custom piece that’s uniquely yours or need advice on fit, techniques, or materials, Jane’s expertise and patient teaching style will help you bring your ideas to life. With her thoughtful approach and dedication, she’s the ideal mentor for anyone wanting to expand their knitting skills and create something truly special. Her love for fiber arts is matched only by her deep connection to nature, which is reflected in her gardening hobby—a perfect balance that brings a calm and grounded energy to the shop.

Jana, on the other hand, brings a diverse background in both art and business to the table. She has been knitting and crocheting for over 20 years, honing her skills through years of practice and experimentation. She finds joy in working with all types of fibers, from luxurious silks to cozy wools, and has developed an eye for selecting the perfect yarn for every project. Her enthusiasm for fibers and colors is contagious, and her goal is to share that excitement with others through workshops, projects, and conversations about all things yarn. With an entrepreneurial spirit and a knack for bringing people together, Jana was the driving force behind opening Space City Yarn. She is committed to creating a welcoming, inspiring space where makers of all levels can learn, grow, and find community.

Together, Jane and Jana share a vision: to create a space where everyone, from beginners to seasoned pros, can find inspiration, knowledge, and connection.

Our Hopes and Plans for the Fiber Arts Community in Houston

When we open the doors of Space City Yarn, we have one goal in mind: to build a warm, inclusive space for fiber arts lovers to come together, learn, and grow. Houston is a diverse, rapidly evolving city, and we believe that the fiber arts community here should reflect that diversity. We want to provide a creative hub where people can not only buy high-quality yarns, tools, and accessories but also take part in workshops, events, and gatherings that spark inspiration.

Here’s what we’re hoping to offer the Houston fiber arts community:

  • Inclusive Classes and Workshops: Whether you’re a brand-new knitter or an experienced crocheter, we want to help you expand your skills. We offer a variety of classes—from beginner knitting workshops to advanced techniques like lace, cables, and colorwork. Our workshops are designed to encourage creativity and foster growth, no matter where you are on your fiber arts journey.
  • A Welcoming Community: Space City Yarn isn’t just a shop—it’s a place to meet like-minded individuals, share ideas, and celebrate creativity. We host regular knit nights, crochet circles, and other gatherings where makers can connect, get inspired, and offer support. Our hope is to build a tight-knit community where everyone feels at home.
  • Supporting Local Makers and Artists: Houston is home to a growing number of talented fiber artists, and we will be proud to showcase their work at Space City Yarn. From locally spun yarns to handmade accessories, we want to support and uplift the incredible makers in our city. You’ll find unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that you won’t see anywhere else.
  • A Place for All Fiber Arts: At Space City Yarn, we celebrate all forms of fiber arts, from knitting and crochet to weaving, spinning, and more. We aim to collaborate with local fiber artists to connect our community with makers and educators, offering opportunities to learn new crafts and explore different techniques. Our goal is to be a resource for creativity, learning, and connection in Houston’s vibrant fiber arts scene.
  • Future Collaborations and Events: We have big dreams for the future of Space City Yarn. From hosting fiber festivals to collaborating with local businesses and artists, we want to continue expanding our reach and growing our community. We’re always on the lookout for new ways to bring creativity, education, and fun to the Houston fiber arts scene.

Looking Ahead

We’re thrilled to be part of Houston’s fiber arts community, and we’re committed to doing everything we can to support it. At Space City Yarn, we believe in the power of creativity to bring people together, and we can’t wait to see what we’ll create together in the years to come. Whether you’re picking up your first skein of yarn or you’re an experienced maker looking to expand your skills, we invite you to join us on this exciting journey.
